The Echosounder Data Service (EDS) is an end-to-end subscription-based software-as-a-service (SaaS), which provides a comprehensive treatment of your echosounder data, providing data products, analytics, and reports delivered directly
to your own dedicated
online workspace. Typical applications include scientific research, fisheries science, conservation management, ecosystem impact assessments (e.g., offshore wind), bathymetry and habitat mapping, and seafloor gas seep analysis.
Cut out months of work collating and preprocessing complex echosounder data sets and go straight to the results, which can be used directly in reports, scientific articles and for further analysis. Through delivery via a secure online
web service, you will be able to manipulate visuals and download content such as data sets, plots and reports. Processing chains are fully documented and analyses are carried out using the software of choice for hydroacoustic data
processing,
Echoview®.

Data
The EDS can ingest a range of echosounder data types, including (but not limited to):
- Single beam and Multibeam data.
- Narrowband and broadband data.
- Data collected in freshwater and marine environments.
A number of mechanisms are used to securely transfer data, which can be discussed during an initial consultation. Processed data are stored in the cloud and can be accessed via the EDS portal.
Analysis
Bespoke processing chains are developed for each client and can include a range of processing and analytical steps:
- Data cleaning (removing background noise, transient noise, impulse noise, attenuated pings, false bottoms).
- Feature extraction (isolated targets, zooplankton swarms, fish schools and layers, and seabed/habitat features), tracking and classification (by species, group or habitat type).
- Zooplankton/Fish target strength modelling.
- Environmental modeling, habitat mapping and geo-statistics.
- Fish stock assessments.
- Time-series analysis.
Outputs
Outputs are made available through our client portal and can include a range of dynamic visual content and data products:
- Metadata (formatted to be published to PANGAEA).
- Summary statistics, plots, echograms and tables.
- 2D and 3D gridded data products.
- Integrated data products (i.e. spatially and temporally linked with other datasets).
- Short or detailed periodic reports.
